Early Life and Background

Theodor Capitani von Kurnatowski III, widely recognized as Theo Von, was born on March 19, 1980, in Covington, Louisiana. Raised in a modest household, Theo's upbringing was marked by unique family dynamics. His father, Roland Theodor Achilles von Kurnatowski Sr., a native of Bluefields, Nicaragua, was 70 years old at the time of Theo's birth. His mother, Gina Capitani, hailed from Wyoming, Illinois. Theo's diverse heritage includes Polish, Nicaraguan, German, English, Irish, and Italian roots, contributing to his rich cultural background. ​

Theo grew up alongside an older brother and two younger sisters. His older half-brother, Roland von Kurnatowski Jr., was a notable figure in New Orleans' music scene, owning the iconic Tipitina's venue. Tragically, Roland Jr. passed away in 2019 due to an accidental shooting. ​

At the age of 14, Theo became legally emancipated, a decision that underscored his early independence. He attended Mandeville High School in Louisiana and later pursued higher education at several institutions, including Louisiana State University, Loyola University New Orleans, University of Arizona, College of Charleston, and Santa Monica College. In 2011, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Planning from the University of New Orleans.

Theo's foray into the entertainment world began in 2000 when he appeared on MTV's "Road Rules: Maximum Velocity Tour." His charisma and wit led to subsequent appearances on MTV's "The Challenge," where he competed in four seasons between 2002 and 2006. ​

Transitioning from reality TV to stand-up comedy, Theo faced initial challenges in shedding the "reality star" label. However, his perseverance paid off when he won the online competition associated with the fourth season of NBC's "Last Comic Standing" in 2006. He further cemented his comedic reputation by winning Comedy Central's "Reality Bites Back" in 2008, a show that featured future stars like Amy Schumer and Bert Kreischer. ​

Theo's stand-up career flourished with performances at prestigious comedy festivals and appearances on shows like "Chelsea Lately," "The Arsenio Hall Show," and "This Is Not Happening." In 2016, he released his first hour-long Netflix special, "No Offense," filmed at the Civic Theatre in New Orleans. ​

Embracing the digital age, Theo launched his podcast, "This Past Weekend," in 2016. The show quickly gained traction for its blend of humor, introspection, and candid conversations. Notably, Theo has hosted a diverse array of guests, including former President Donald Trump and Senator Bernie Sanders, showcasing his ability to engage with individuals across the political spectrum. ​

In addition to "This Past Weekend," Theo co-hosted "The King and the Sting" podcast with fellow comedian Brendan Schaub from 2018 to 2022. Personal Life and Current Endeavors

As of September 2020, Theo resides in Nashville, Tennessee, having purchased the former home of Vanderbilt football coach Derek Mason. Despite his public persona, Theo maintains a relatively private personal life. He is currently single and continues to focus on his career in comedy and podcasting. ​
